Our Tohu - By Maia Gibbs

‘Tohu’ means symbol and this bespoke tohu was created exclusively for our company by renowned artist Maia Gibbs, it holds deep meaning and significance specific to our company. It brings together traditional Maori designs that reflect who we are, where we've come from, and where we are going.

Each design speaks to the journey our company is on – guided by the wisdom of the past, moving with intention in the present, and striving to create a positive future for our people.

Puhoro represents movement and momentum, inspired by the dynamic flow of our moana (ocean) and awa (rivers). It reminds us to move forward with purpose, carrying with us the hopes and dreams of the next generation.

Mangopare, inspired by the hammerhead shark, is a powerful tohu seen throughout Te Tairawhiti. It symbolises strength, determination, and courage – the qualities embodied by the people of our rohe.

Koru, drawn from the unfurling fern, speaks to growth, renewal, and progression. It reflects our aspirations and our continuous journey upward toward our goals.

Together, these designs form a visual expression of our collective identity, values, and vision. We are honoured to have received this design from Maia, check out more of Maias’ artwork here.
