Rua Bioscience’s Compassionate Access Programme is changing from 1 January 2027, following a review of the programme. Our commitment remains to support Tairawhiti patients who need medicinal cannabis but cannot afford it.
The changes aim to improve how the programme is managed, support a fairer rotation of patients receiving assistance, and ensure support reaches patients who meet the programme’s eligibility criteria. The range of supported products will also be reduced.
If you currently receive support through the programme or are on the waiting list:
You will need to be reassessed by your doctor under the new eligibility criteria.
A new application must be submitted on your behalf by your doctor or prescriber. Patients cannot apply directly.
Applications must be submitted by 1 December 2026 to allow time for assessment before the revised programme begins.
Some products will no longer be available through the programme.
Continued support is not automatic or guaranteed. Please speak with your doctor or prescriber about the changes, your eligibility and whether your current medication will remain available through the programme.
What happens next?
Doctors and prescribers have been notified of the changes and asked to work with affected patients to review their circumstances and submit new applications where appropriate.
Please contact your doctor or prescriber to discuss what these changes mean for you and whether a new application should be submitted on your behalf.
Your doctor or prescriber can access the new application form and list of supported products here:
