Keen to grow Hemp? Here’s how…

Step 1 - Email MPI

Send an email to the Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) before you begin. You must include:

  • Your Name and Contact details.

  • Your Home Address.

  • A Description of the intended Nature and Scale of the cultivation. Eg. Personal cultivation for hemp seed / small scale indoor crop for fibre / research etc.


Step 2 - Email the Police

Fill out the notification form below and email it through to hempnotifications@police.govt.nz

You’ll need to provide the following:

  • Your Name and Contact Details

  • Company details if you’re cultivating on behalf of a company

  • A description of the intended Nature and Scale of the cultivation.

  • Your Home Address and Cultivation Site Information - the site address, and if the location is not easily identifiable from address provided, a map or plan.

Step 3 - Source your seeds or clones and start growing

Once your notifications have been submitted, you’re ready to get growing!

TIP: If you’re planning to grow from seed, and not growing to produce hemps seeds, make sure you use feminised seed to prevent cross-pollination with your own and others’ crops!
