Keen to grow Hemp? Here’s how..

1. Notify the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI)

Send a notification to MPI before you begin. Your notification must include:

  • Your Name and Contact details.

  • Your Home Address.

  • A Description of the intended Nature and Scale of the cultivation. Eg. Personal cultivation for greater self-sufficiency / small scale indoor crop for fibre / research etc.


2. Notify the New Zealand Police in person

Visit your local Police Station and provide the following details:

  • Your Name and Contact Details

  • A description of the intended Nature and Scale of the cultivation.

  • Your Home Address and Cultivation Site Information - the site address, and if the location is not easily identifiable from address provided, a map or plan.

3. Source your seeds or clones and start growing

Once your notifications have been submitted, you’re ready to get growing!

TIP: If you’re planning to grow from seed, and not growing to produce hemps seeds, make sure you use feminised seed to prevent cross-pollination with your own and others’ crops!
